Tuesday 5 April 2009:

Broadbridge Heath were defeated 3-1 by Mid Sussex Premier side Lindfield in the final of the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup at Three Bridges FC.

Saturday 2 May 2009:

Clymping were crowned champions following their 3-1 win at Dorking Wanderers. Richie Moss gave Clymping a 20th minute lead, but Leroy Hyett equalised five minutes before the break. Clymping secured the points and the championship with two goals in the last two minutes, courtesy of Adam Westwoods and Joe Shelley.

Little Common ended a 15 year absence from senior football as they secured the runners up spot with a 2-1 home win over Bosham. Andy Rawlings gave the visitors a 10th minute lead and Little Common had to wait until the 75th minute for Russell Eldridge to equalise. Adam Fisher settled the game on 80 minutes with the winner.

Newhaven finished fourth after beating second bottom Hurstpierpoint 3-2 at home. Scott Edwards gave Newhaven the lead after 15 minutes, but Adam Pattison equalised on 30. Darren Flynn restored Newhaven's lead in the 53rd minute and Gary Holmes made it 3-1 after 76. Graeme Fotheringham pulled one back for Hurst with four minutes to go

Dorking Wanderers went out of the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup after being beaten 6-2 in the semi final by Mid Sussex Premier League runners up Lindfield at Leylands Park, Burgess Hill.

Wednesday 29 April 2009:

Rottingdean Village moved out of the bottom three as they completed their fixtures with a 1-1 draw with Hurstpierpoint, in a game played at Hassocks FC. Ryan Betsworth gave Rottingdean the lead after 10 minutes, but Luke Flomo equalised 20 minutes into the second half. The point wasn't enough to save Hurst from a bottom two finish.

Tuesday 28 April 2009:

Forest completed their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Dorking Wanderers to finish in sixth place. M. Harris gave Forest a 20th minute lead, but M. Whittingham equalised two minutes later. A minute into the second half and Grant Miller gave the visitors the lead for the second time, but Dan Evans gave Dorking a share of the points with a 71st minute equaliser.

Saturday 25 April 2009:

Clymping clinched promotion and the championship, barring a miracle, after hammering second bottom Hurstpierpoint 6-1 at home. Dominic Di Paola put Clymping in front on 15 minutes, and further strikes by Joe Shelley (32), Tom Bunting (37), and Peter Brackley (41) saw the home side go in four up at the break. Joe Shelley scored two more in the second half after 52 and 82 minutes to complete his hat trick, while Chris Long scored Hurst's consolation with 9 minutes left. Clymping only need a point away to Dorking Wanderers to make certain of the championship, although they have a far superior goal difference over their nearest challenger Little Common. Hurst are guarantered to finish second bottom.

Little Common are battling to the end and look favourites to finish runners up following a 1-0 home win over Forest with Jared Lusted scoring the only goal after just 2 minutes.

Haywards Heath Town finished their season in style, as a crowd of 132 saw them win 3-0 at Newhaven, thanks to a Kevin Cooper hat trick. His first came after 7 minutes, his second on 68 and his third with four minutes to go.

Saltdean United completed their fixtures with a 2-0 home win over bottom side Pease Pottage Village and move up to seventh. Dean Taylor opened the scoring on 24 minutes and Andy Rouane netted the second with six minutes left.

Rottingdean Village gave themselves a chance of finishing out of the bottom three thanks to a 3-1 home win over Dorking Wanderers. Ryan Betsworth gave Rottingdean a 17th minute lead, but a Dan Evans penalty made it 1-1 after 56. Tom Pattenden scored Rottingdean's second with six minutes to go and J. Kilgarriff made the points certain with a the third in the last minute.

Tuesday 21 April 2009:

Congratulations to Forest who picked up their first piece of silverware for some twenty years when they beat Bosham 1-0 in the final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup. The only goal of the game was scored by Jake Holmes on 59 minutes.

In the league Saltdean United probably put paid to Haywards Heath Town's chances of winning the title as they beat them 2-1 at Hill Park. Rob Cooper gave Heath the lead after 31 minutes with a fine individual effort, but two minutes later Naime Rouane scored direct from a free kick. A. Rouane gave Saltdean the points with the winner after 76 minutes.

Saturday 18 April 2009:

Haywards Heath Town closed the gap at the top to just two points after thumpring Broadbridge Heath 5-0 at the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre. A Mark Beard free kick put Haywards Heath one up after 23 minutes and further goals from Kevin and Rob Cooper after 42 and 44 minutes gave Haywards Heath a 3-0 half time lead. Adam Wright scored his first goal for the First Team on 85 minutes and Eric Tsvale made it 5-0 in the last minute.

Little Common all but ended Dorking Wanderers chances after winning 3-0 at West Humble Playing Fields. Adie Kettyles gave the visitors the lead after 10 minutes and the same player made it 2-0 on 23 minutes. Jared Lusted put the final gloss on the result with the third 4 minutes from time.

Newhaven climb above Dorking to fourth following their 4-1 win at Uckfield Town. Ben Elsey gave Uckfield the lead after 24 minutes, but Simon Bailey equalised a minute later. Bailey gave Newhaven the lead five minutes into the second half and Mark Probert made it 3-1 after 60. Leading scorer Ryan Walton got the fourth three minutes from time.

Down at the bottom Ifield Edwards came from behind twice to win their vital last game of the season 3-2 at second bottom Hurstpierpoint, a result that should see them finish third bottom at worst. Graeme Fotheringham gave Hurst the lead on 15 minutes, but Ifield equalised on 34 minutes through Andy Dhiman. Tom Stripp put Hurst in front again after 36 minutes, but Ben Arthur pegged them back on 60. Ten minutes later and skipper Clive Piller scored what turned out to be the winner for a massive three points for the visitors.

Rottingdean Village gave themselves a lifeline to get out of the bottom three with a 2-0 win at Saltdean United. J. Kilgarriff gave them the lead after ten minutes and T. Pattenden made the game safe five minutes from time with Rottingdean's second.

Pease Pottage Village seemed destined to finish bottom as they went down 7-0 at fifth bottom Bosham, who were six up at half time! Barry Keogh started the rout after 8 minutes, Nick Edgington scored the second on 14. Peter Hunt netted the third and Edington completed his hat trick with goals on 24 and 30 minutes. Hunt completed a miserable first half for the visitors with the sixth two minutes before the break, and he went on to complete his hat trick with the final goal of the game on 58 minutes.

Wednesday 15 April 2009:

Dorking Wanderers move up to fourth place after a 5-2 win at bottom side Pease Pottage Village, who made them work all the way for the points. Pottage took the lead in the first minute through Gary Downer, but Leroy Hyett equalised for Dorking on 28 minutes. Pottage regained the lead seven minutes into the second half, but Lee Smith brought Dorking level on 73. Three goals in seven minutes late in the game through Leroy Hyett (80) and two from Jon Tyler (85 and 87) saw Dorking home.

Tuesday 07 April 2009:

Congratulations to Forest who are through to the final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup after beating Brighton Electricity at Culver Road in their semi final. A last minute equaliser from Joe Holvey saw the game go to extra time where the sides could not be separated. Forest eventually going through 5-4 on penalties.

In the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup Broadbridge Heath are through to the final after beating Crawley Premier League side Bletchingley 4-1 after extra time. Matt Butler equalised for Heath in the 75th minute to force extra time, where an eight minute hat trick in the second period from Nathan Bradnum saw Heath through.

In the league Hurstpierpoint remain second bottom after losing 1-0 at Saltdean United where Dean Taylor was on target for the home side.

Saturday 04 April 2009:

Clymping have opened up a four point lead at the top following their 3-1 win at previous third placed Little Common. Richard Ghent after 15 minutes and a Joe Shelley free kick on 40 gave Clymping a 2-0 half time lead. Joe Shelley added a third with a long range effort two minutes into the second half. Jared Lusted pulling a goal back for Common after 50 minutes.

Second placed Haywards Heath Town twice had to come from behind to rescue a point in their home game with Forest. Matt Phelan gave Forest an 8th minute lead, which they held onto until the 59th minute when Dean Pitcher equalised. Ben Bissett put the visitors in front again after 67 minutes, but Dean Pitcher equalised for the second time 3 minutes later for a share of the points.

Newhaven move up to third thanks to a 4-2 win at Hurstpierpoint, who remain second bottom. Leading scorer Ryan Walton put Newhaven in front after 15 minutes, but Lee Mansell equalised on 38 minutes to make it 1-1 at the break. Luke Flomo put Hurst in front after 65 minutes, but five minutes later Ryan Walton scored his second to equalise. He completed his hat trick on 80 minutes to regain the lead for Newhaven and Wayne Bashford put the result beyond doubt with three minutes to go.

Dorking Wanderers are still fifth, but with games in hand, after winning 1-0 at Bosham. Lee Smith scoring the only goal of the game after just four minutes.

Down near the bottom Ifield Edwards have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding the bottom two places and opened up a five point gap on the bottom three thanks to a 1-0 win at Uckfield Town, where an own goal after 65 minutes turned out to be the winner.

Pease Pottage Village are still bottom despite picking up a point at Broadbridge Heath following a 0-0 draw.

Rottingdean Village stay third bottom as they also picked up a point following a 1-1 draw at home with local rivals Saltdean United. Matt Fleming gave Saltdean a 52nd minute lead, but Mick Onions salvaged a point for the home side eight minutes from time.

Saturday 28 March 2009:

Clymping maintained their three point lead at the top of the table after a comfortable 5-0 home win over Pease Pottage Village, who drop to the bottom of the table. Tom Bunting put Clymping ahead after 23 minutes and that's how the score remained until the second half. Joe Shelley scored their second on 68 minutes, and six minutes later it was 3-0 as Peter Bentley scored. Two goals in the last three minutes, with Peter Brackley and Joe Shelley both scoring again made the scoreline more emphatic.

Haywards Heath Town put a dent in Little Common's championship aspirations as they won this six-pointer 3-1 at the Sports Pavilion. Kevin Cooper gave Heath a 4th minute lead, but Jared Lusted equalised for Common just before the break. Dave Moores put Heath back in front on 65 minutes and Darren Pitcher made the points safe with the third in the last minute.

Newhaven stay fourth thanks to a 2-1 win at Broadbridge Heath. Mark Probert put the visitors in front after just 8 minutes. Twelve minutes into the second half and Heath equalised through Michael Simmonds. Ryan Walton grabbed the winner with five minutes left.

Dorking Wanderers are still in with an outside chance of one of the promotion places following a 5-1 win at Hurstpierpoint. Two own goals after 20 and 30 minutes didn't help Hurst's cause, but Francis Dellow pulled one back on the stroke of half time to make it 2-1. Lee Smith restored Dorking's two goal advantage as minute into the second half. Justin Skinner made it 4-1 after 70 minutes and Matt Evans completed the rout with 10 minutes to go. Forest drop a place to sixth after losing 1-0 at Saltdean United, where an own goal after 26 minutes did the damage.

Ifield Edwards move out of the bottom three after a convincing 4-0 home win over Bosham. Skipper Clive Piller gave the home side a first half lead, and he doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half. Two goals from Ross Dance after 56 and 64 minutes secured a valuable three points.

Second bottom Rottingdean Village drew 1-1 at home with Uckfield Town. Ross Curly gave the home side a 51st minute lead, but J. Miller gave Uckfield a share of the points with an equaliser three minutes from time.

Saturday 21 February 2009:

In the Third Round of the Vernon Wentworth Cup Hurstpierpoint went out to West Sussex Premier side Lancing United after losing a penalty shoot out 3-2. Extra time had failed to separate the sides who were locked at 0-0.

The chasing pack failed to take advantage of league leaders Clymping's inactivity. Second placed Little Common went down to a heavy defeat at fifth placed Haywards Heath Town, losing 5-1. Adam Fisher gave Little Common the lead after just 3 minutes, but Rob Cooper got Heath back on level terms after 11. Dean Pitcher made it 2-1 at half time. Four minutes into the second half and Luis Freitas got Heath's third. Mark Beard made it four after 70 minutes and Eric Mvale got the fifth with a minute to go. Third-placed Forest missed the chance to close the gap as they went down 3-1 at home to Dorking Wanderers. Ben Bissett gave Forest the lead on 25 minutes, but a Matt Evans header from a corner on 35 minutes equalised for the visitors. Evans scored again five minutes later, his ninth goal in six games, to put Dorking in front and Leroy Hyett made sure of the points with Dorking's third. Fourth placed Newhaven had to settle for a point as they came from behind to grab a point at home to Pease Pottage Village. Matt Barton gave the visitors the lead after just 7 minutes, but top scorer Ryan Walton equalised on 24. Uckfield Town had a good 4-0 win at Broadbridge Heath. Ben Elsey set Uckfield on their way after 17 minutes. M. Simpson got the second on 26, and two second half strikes from D. Venton after 70 and 86 minutes completed the scoring. There are now just three points separating second place from sixth. Second bottom Saltdean United picked up only their second league win, beating Bosham 2-0 at home. A goal in each half from Matt Den Heijer and Dean Taylor gave Saltdean the points, but they remain in the bottom two. Down at the bottom Ifield Edwards picked up a point following their 1-1 draw at home with third bottom Rottingdean Village. Andy Dhiman put Ifield ahead after just 5 minutes, but Rickie Mitchell equalised six minutes later.

Saturday 14 February 2009:

Bosham are through to the fifth round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup after beating Arundel Reserves 3-2 at home. Lee Bedden put the home side in front after 11 minutes, but Arundel fought back and led 2-1 with 5 mintues to go and then Kieran Hartley equalised. Rick Mullen scored the winner in the last minute. Rottingdean Village went out after losing 3-2 at home to Suburban League Southern side Eastbourne Borough II after extra time. T. Pattenden and an own goal were Rottngdean's scorers. In the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup Fourth Round Dorking Wanderers won the all Division Three tie with Hurstpierpoint comfortably, running out 5-1 winners at home. Leroy Hyett gave Dorking the lead and Lee Smith made it 2-0 on 35 minutes. Francis Dellow pulled a goal back for Hurst after 53 minutes, but on 57 minutes Lee Smith got his second and Dorking's third, and he scored twice more to take his tally to four.

The match of the day in the league saw leaders Clymping consolidate their position at the top with a 3-2 win at third-placed Newhaven, who were beaten for just the second time in the league. Sean Breach gave the home side the perfect start as he scored in the first minute, but Joe Shelley equalised with a header on 26 minutes. Darren Flynn put Newhaven in front for the second time, only for Tom Bunting to equalise just before the break. Paul Brown won it for Clymping with just five minutes to go. Little Common kept up their challenge in second place after winning 4-2 at Pease Pottage Village, twice coming from behind. Dan Paton gave Pottage the lead after 9 minutes with a long range effort, but Mark Rogers made it all square at the break when he stabbed the ball home. Matt Barton headed the home side ahead again on 57 minutes, but Adie Kettyles equalised on 68 mintes and then put Common ahead 6 minutes later. Andy Matthews made the points safe in the last minute. Forest are up to third thanks to a 2-1 home win over local rivals Broadbridge Heath. Forest took the lead in the 60th minute through Jason Allen and with 6 minutes to go Ben Bissett put them two up, but Heath made it an interesting last five minutes as they pulled a goal back through James Sandford a minute later. Haywards Heath Town beat Uckfield Town 1-0 at home and moved above them in the table to fifth. John White netted the only goal of the game after 74 minutes. Ifield Edwards closed the gap at the bottom of the table after beating second bottom Saltdean United 2-0 at home. Skipper Clive Piller got the first after 10 minutes and Luke Richardson made sure of the points with the second seven minutes from time.

Saturday 7 February 2009:

The weather again decimated the fixtures, but there were still some games played. Bosham won through to the semi finals of the Division Three Challenge Cup where they will play Dorking Wanderers, after winning 3-0 at Hurstpierpoint. Brad Miles put the visitors ahead after 25 minutes. Two minutes into the second half Scott Cooper made it 2-0 and Chris Priest got the third ten minutes from time.

In the league Clymping opened up a five point gap at the top thanks to a 1-0 home win over fifth-placed Uckfield Town, but they had to wait until the last five minutes before W. Ashman grabbed the only goal. Dorking Wanderers move up a place to sixth and above Haywards Heath Town who they beat 3-0 at Hanbury Park Stadium. After a goalless first half Shane Jones put Dorking one up two minutes into the second half. Leroy Hyett made it two after 74 minutes and seven minutes later Matt Evans netted Dorking's third.

Rottingdean Village moved out of the bottom two after a last minute equaliser from R. Betsworth salvaged a point at home to Pease Pottage Village, who had led since the seventh minutes courtesy of Matt Barton.

Wednesday 4 February 2009:

Haywards Heath Town won through to the 4th Round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup following their 3-2 victory over East Preston II. They now have a home tie with Eastbourne Town II.

For the first time in quite a while there was a full league programme, and not one of the top three sides managed a win. Leaders Clymping stopped their recent slump, but could only draw 2-2 at third bottom Rottingdean Village who were playing only their fourth home league game of the season. Clymping took the lead through Tom Bunting after just 5 minutes, but T. Lancaster equalised on 20. Simon Corona put the visitors ahead again in the 60th minute, but Rickie Mitchelll salvaged a point with the equaliser 15 minutes from time, but Rottingdean drop down to second bottom. Second placed Little Common failed to capitalise on Clymping dropping two points as they went down 2-0 at Forest. Grant Miller got Forest off to a flying start as he scored in the first minute, but they had to wait until the last three minutes to secure the points as Jason Allen got their second. Third placed Newhaven lost for the first time in the league as they went down 2-1 at home to Dorking Wanderers, with all three goals coming in the last thirteen minutes. Tyrone Oliver put Dorking ahead, but five minutes later Gary Holmes grabbed an equaliser, Lee Smith netted the winner for the visitors in the 88th minute. Uckfield Town remain fifth after beating Bosham 2-1 at home. Ben Elsey gave Town a half time lead as he scored five minutes before the break and D. Venton doubled their advantage two minutes in the second half. Lee Bedden pulled a goal back in the 75th minute. Haywards Heath Town stay sixth as they had to work hard to see off bottom side Ifield Edwards, winning 1-0 at Hanbury Stadium. The only goal of the game game came after 24 minutes through Geoff Pitcher. Broadbridge Heath won their mid table clash with Hurstpierpoint 4-2 at home. Graeme Fortheringham and Martin Hurley gave the visitors a two goal lead, scoring after 16 and 36 minutes respectively. Damon Aston pulled one back on the stroke of half time and Warren Sweatman equalised on 70 minutes. Matt Butler put Heath ahead in the 77th minute and Scott Avory made the points safe with the fourth four minutes from time. Second bottom Saltdean United move up a place, and above Rottingdean Village, after winning 1-0 at Pease Pottage Village with Jack McDowell scoring the winner with just two minutes to go.

In the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup Hurstpierpoint made it through to the 4th Round after beating Mid Sussex Premier side Jarvis Brook 1-0 at home. Francis Dellow scoring the only goal of the game after 15 minutes.

In the Vernon Wentworth Cup Rottingdean Village went out after losing 3-1 at County Reserve Premier side St Francis Rangers Reserves. Rickie Mitchell netting their consolation goal after 65 minutes.

The game of the day in the league saw Newhaven hammer league leaders Clymping 5-1 at the Clymping Village Hall to move within two points of them, and with two games in hand. Clymping took the lead on 24 minutes through Richy Moss, but Mark Probert got Newhaven back level four minutes later. Simon Bailey put the visitors in front two minutes into the second half and then Tyler Goacher scored twice in the 55th and 68th minutes to give Newhaven a three goal advantage. Simon Bailey rounded things off with the fifth after 75 minutes. Uckfield Town dropped a couple of points and a place down the table as they were held 3-3 at home by second bottom Saltdean United. M. Simpson put the home side ahead on 18 minutes, but M. Fleming equalised two minutes later. M Walton put Uckfield 2-1 up at the break, but an own goal three minutes into the second half brought the scores level. D. Venton put the home side in front for the third time after 50 minutes, and they must have though that was it, but in the last minute Naim Rouane levelled for Saltdean. Forest are up to fourth thanks to a comfortable 3-0 home win over Pease Pottage Village. Goals from Grant Miller after 14 minutes, Jake Holmes on 30 and Ben Bissett on 32 put the home side three up at the break and that was enough to secure the points. Broadbridge Heath move up a couple of places to eighth following their 1-0 win at Bosham, where Damon Aston scored the only goal after just 8 minutes. Ifield Edwards earnt a point against a strong Dorking Wanderers side. Home skipper Clive Piller opened the scoring for Ifield in the 6th minute, but Matt Evans equalised on 19. Ross Cambridge gave Ifield the lead again on 34 minutes, only for Evans to level again three minutes before the break. Dorking must have thought they had the game won when Leroy Hyett put them 3-2 up with just two minutes remaining, but Ifield gained a deserved point when Clive Piller equalised with the last kick of the game. Little Common's home game with Haywards Heath Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Following Saturday's complete washout Pease Pottage Village picked up their first win for 8 games as they won through to a Second Round tie at Dorking Wanderers in the Division Three Challenge Cup following their 3-2 win at Newhaven. Ryan Walton gave Newhaven the lead on 37 minutes, but Sean Coleby scored twice for the visitors on 42 and 44 minutes to put them in front. Walton equalised 7 minutes into the second half, but Matt Harding netted the winner on 73 minutes.

Top of the table Clymping beat bottom side Ifield Edwards 2-0 at home. A goal after just two minutes from Adam Westwoods set Clymping on their way and Joe Shelley scored the second on 18 minutes. Little Common again kept pace with them as they won 3-0 at Broadbridge Heath. After a goalless first halt Common took the lead through Dan Collins on 56 minutes. Top scorer Lewis Hole made it 16 for the season as he scored twice after 65 and 83 minutes. Haywards Heath Town move up to third after beating second bottom Saltdean United 2-1 at Hanbury Park. Olly Day gave Heath the lead after 19 minutes and Dean Pitcher doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second half. D. Taylor pulled a goal back with two minutes remaining.

In the Division Three Challenge Cup First Round Rottingdean Village and Hurstpierpoint drew 1-1 and were unable to play extra time due to a lenghty injury delay to one of the Hurstpierpoint players. Stuart Ritchie gave Hurst the lead half way through the first half, but with 8 minutes to go Ricky Mitchell equalised for the home side. Newhaven's home tie with Pease Pottage Village was postponed due to a floodlight failure.

The weather caused a lot of games throughout the county to be postponed as the rain made pitches unplayable. Ifield Edwards managed to play their Second round Mid Sussex Senior Cup tie at Crawley Premier side Bletchingley, but probably wished they hadn't as they went out after losing 5-4. Mel Thomas gave Bletchingley the lead after just two minutes from a dubious penalty decision, then Bletchingley keeper Brad Walton punched the ball into his own net to bring the scores level. After 51 minutes Justin Scott put the home side in front and then he made it 3-1. Ross Dance pulled one back after 74 minutes and then levelled the scores two minutes later. Chris Hughes put Ifield Edwards ahead. But with 90 minutes on the clock Stott complete his hat trick with the equaliser and and there was still just enough time for Thomas to score the winner.

There were just two league games played, and surprisingly one of those was at Forest, where the home side lost 2-1 to Bosham. K. Hartley gave Bosham the lead after some 15 minutes, but on the half hour Grant Miller equalised. N. Redman netted the winner for Bosham after 70 minutes to move them up to seventh in the table. Pease Pottage Village lost their seventh consecutive league game as they went down 5-2 at home to Broadbridge Heath. Aaron Jeal gave Heath the lead after just nine minutes and Ryan Archer made it 2-0 just before half time following a mix up in the Pottage defence. Matt Butler scored a hat trick in eight minutes at the start of the second half to secure the points, Pottage scored a coupe of consolation goals through leading scorer Rickie Mitchell after 64 minutes and Jay Ball in the 70th. All the other games involving Division Three sides were postponed.

In the Second Round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup Pease Pottage Village went out after losing 4-2 at West Sussex Premier League side Petworth, with Ricki Mitchell and Mark O'Reagan scoring for Pottage. In the Division Three Challenge Cup Broadbridge Heath won through to a Second Round tie at Haywards Heath Town following their 2-0 home win over Uckfield Town, with Damon Aston and Josh Archer on target after 6 and 37 minutes respectively. In the Surrey Intermediate Cup Second Round Dorking Wanderers had a comfortable 5-2 home win over Old Salesians with Lee Smith netting a hat trick and Leroy Hyett getting the other two. In the Hastings Intermediate Cup Second Round a Lewis Hole goal five minutes into the second half gave Little Common a 1-0 win at Bexhill United II.

In the league Clymping moved back to the top after beating Haywards Heath Town 2-1 at home. Gavin Jones opened the scoring for the home side after just 6 minutes and Aaron Meehan made it 2-0 five minutes later. Heath pulled a goal back in the second half through Matt Kelly, but it wasn't enough. Newhaven are up to fourth after beating Ifield Edwards 2-1 at home. Chris Hughes gave Ifield the lead after 15 minutes, but Gary Holmes equalised three minutes later. Ryan Walton scored what turned out to be the winner five minutes into the second half very much against the run of play. Forest move up a place to sixth and dropped Rottingdean Village into the bottom three after beating them 2-0 at Roffey Sports Club, thanks to goals from Michael Simmonds after 62 minutes and Joe Holvey on 75. Bosham and Hurstpierpoint shared the points at Walton Lane after a 2-2 draw. Francis Dellow put the visitors ahead after 22 minutes, and they held on to their lead until the 64th minute when N. Edgington equalised. Hurst substitute Martin Hurley restored their lead on 68 minutes, but R. Mullen salvaged a point with a second equaliser on 76 minutes.

It was the Second Round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup last Saturday and there were due to be nine Division Three sides competing. But thanks to the wet weather only five managed to play their ties. Bosham earnt themselves a home tie with either Horsham YMCA II or Barnham in the Third Round after beating Bexhill United II 5-0 at home. T. Evans opened the scoring after 25 minutes and three more goals before half time from N. Edgington, with two, and K. Hartley put the tie beyond Bexhill. M. Giambelardini made it 5-0 15 minutes into the second half. Clymping won the all Division Three tie at home to Newhaven 2-1. Joe Shelley gave Clymping the lead after 10 minutes and Richy Moss doubled their lead on the stroke of half time. A Ryan Walton penalty after 64 minutes gave Newhaven some hope. Clymping are at home to Brighton Electricity or Franklands Village in Round Three. Forest also won through to the Third Round after their narrow 3-2 win at Seaford Town II, where Grant Miller scored twice with Michael Simmonds netting the other. Forest are away to the winners of the tie between Wealden II and Hurstpierpoint. Broadbridge Heath went out after losing 3-2 at home to West Sussex Premier League side TD Shipley. Michael Dale and Andrew Waddingham scored for Broadbridge Heath.

There were just two league games played and Little Common took full advantage of the other teams' involvement in the cup to go top after winning 5-1 at second bottom Saltdean United. Two goals from Lewis Hole and one from A. Fisher put the visitors 3-0 up at the break. M. Saxby pulled a goal back after 54 minutes, but Lewis Hole completed his hat trick after 71 minutes and Chas Lister netted the fifth eight minutes from time. Dorking Wanderers were comfortable 4-0 winners over Ifield Edwards at West Humble and move up three places to fifth. Lee Smith scored two first half goals after 25 and 34 minutes, and there were further strikes from Matt Evans after 57 minutes and Dan Evans in the last minute.

Clymping took advantage of Uckfield Town having their game at Saltdean United abandoned after 40 minutes and Haywards Heath Town's postponement at home to Little Common to moved up to second place after beating Dorking Wanderers 3-0 at home. Jan Miller put Clymping ahead early in the second half, Seb Di Paola made it 2-0 and ten minutes later Player Manager Dominic Di Paola completed the scoring.

Newhaven move up to fifth thanks to a 3-2 win at Forest. Goals from Dan Murray on 11 minutes, Ryan Walton after 30 and Gary Holmes on 35 gave the visitors a 3-0 half time lead, but Joe Holvey pulled a goal back after 63 minutes and Mike Simmonds ensured a nervy last 15 minutes as he scored Forest's second.

Hurstpierpoint move up three places to eighth after beating Pease Pottage Village 4-2 at home. Jack Ritchie gave the home side an 18th minute lead, but Martin equalised for Pottage after 20. Ritchie netted again five minutes later to give Hurst a 2-1 lead at half time. Martin Hurley made it 3-1 after 65 minutes, but Dave Houlders pulled another back to make it 3-2 with twenty minutes to go, Jack Ritchie's third secured the points for Hurst. That defeat means Pottage now find themselves in the bottom four after their fifth consecutive league defeat.

The bottom two sides both won, Rottingdean Village scored two second half goals through Jamie Edwards after 55 minutes and Anthony Potter in the 83rd to secure the three points at Bosham.

Ifield Edwards picked up their first league win after deservedly beating Broadbridge Heath 2-1 at home. Skipper Clive Piller gave Ifield the lead with barely two minutes gone and Chris Hughes made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time. Jamie Sandford pulled a goal back for Heath after 61 minutes, but Ifield Edwards had little trouble holding on to take a most welcome three points.

In the Division Three Challenge Cup 1st Round Dorking Wanderers won through to a Second Round home tie with either Newhaven or Pease Pottage Village following their 4?0 home win over Little Common. Lee Smith gave Dorking the lead just before half time. Shane Jones made it 2?0 after 57, with Leroy Hyett and Dan Evans getting the other two. There were big wins for the Division Three sides in the Vernon Wentworth Cup as Clymping beat AFC Broadwater 7-0 at home with Richard Moss netting a hat trick and Gary Jones two, while Adam Westwood and Joe Shelley got the others. Rottingdean Village are also through to the Third Round after beating O&G United 5-1 at home, Ryan Taylor scored the first and there were two goals apiece for Anthony Potter and Casey Marlowe.

In the league Uckfield Town came down to earth with a bump as their unbeaten league record took a knock when they were beaten 5?1 at home by Haywards Heath Town, who move up to second. An own goal and two from Dean Pitcher gave Heath a 3?0 half time lead. Geoff Pitcher scored twice in the second half for an emphatic win. Forest move up a place to fifth as a last minute goal from Jason Allen was enough to give them the points at Pease Pottage Village. Newhaven, playing only their sixth league game are up to seventh after beating Bosham 5?0 at Fort Road. Simon Whitney put the home side one up after 16 minutes and Gary Holme doubled their advantage before half time. Ryan Walton, Dan Murray and Phil Avenell completed the scoring in the second half. Hurstpierpoint picked up their third win, beating Broadbridge Heath 3?1 at home. Stuart Ritchie gave Hurst the lead after 18 minutes and Tony Ritchie made it two in the 38th minute. Scott Avory pulled a goal back five minutes before the break, but Stuart Ritchie netted his second and Hurst?s third on the stroke of half time. Third bottom Saltdean United drew 1?1 at home with bottom side Ifield Edwards. Chapman gave the home side the lead on 28 minutes, but an Aaron Smith header equalised for the visitors just before the break.

The top league match of the day saw second placed Clymping play host to third-placed Little Common, and it was the visitors who moved into second place after a 2-1 win. Little Common took a first half lead through Andy Linch after 24 minutes. Joe Shelley equalised for Clymping on 60 minutes, but Jordan Wood got the winner ten minutes from time. Uckfield Town consolidated their place at the top with a 3-1 home win over Hurstpierpoint. Hurst went ahead after 15 minutes through S. Ritchie, but Uckfield equalised after 30 through Gary Rook, and second half strikes from Rook again after 70 minutes and Wes Lopez on 80 secured the points.

Haywards Heath Town kept up with the leaders and are fourth thanks to a 1-0 home win over Rottingdean Village with Olly Day netting the only goal of the game after 65 minutes. Dorking Wanderers are up to fifth after hammering Pease Pottage Village 7-1 at home. Ricki Mitchell put the visitors ahead, but Lee Smith equalised on the stroke of half time, and went on to score three more in the second half, with Dan Evans with two and Matt Evans completing the scoring. Broadbridge Heath drew their local derby with Forest 1-1. Josh Archer scored after 15 minutes to give the home side the lead, but Mike Simmonds gave Forest a share of the points with a 31st minute penalty. Bosham move up to seventh with their second consecutive home win, this time beating bottom side Ifield Edwards 2-0. R. Mullen gave Bosham a 25th minute lead, but they didn't make sure of the points until the 89th minute when B. Miles netted

In the Vernon Wentworth Cup First Round Saltdean United had a comfortable 6-0 home win over Pagham Reserves. P. Merriott gave them the lead after 7 minutes as Pagham held out until the second half, when D. Chapman made it 2-0. M. Saxby got the third and there were further strikes from D. Taylor, who scored a five minute hat trick between the 85th and 90th minutes to set up an away tie in the second round with L&S Athletic. Newhaven went out after losing 3-2 at Shoreham Reserves.

Last Saturday saw First Round ties in the Sussex Intermediate Cup with reasonably good results for Division Three sides. In the all Division Three tie at Little Common it was visitors Uckfield Town who won through to a Second Round tie at Chichester City United. Ben Bradley gave Uckfield a second minute lead and Ben Elsey made it 2-0 thirteen minutes into the second half. Lewis Hole pulled a goal back two minutes later, but Chris Hickman on 65 minutes secured the win for Uckfield.

Broadbridge Heath went through, beating Worthing Reserves 4-1 at home as Damon Aston netted a hat trick and Matt Butler scored the other. Broadbridge Heath will play TD Shipley in Round Two. Haywards Heath Town are also through as two Darren Pitcher goals in the first half were enough to see off Mid Sussex League side Maresfield Village. Haywards Heath Town will now play Fern Estates. Newhaven won 3-0 at Mile Oak II to set up a tie at fellow Division Three side Clymping in the next round, as Gary Holmes scored twice after 25 and 30 minutes, while Mark Probert made it three just before half time. Ifield Edwards let a two-goal lead slip with less than 20 minutes to go as they went out to Suburban League Premier side Three Bridges II. Ross Dance and Clive Piller gave the Villagers a two goal half time lead. But with 18 minutes remaining Collewijn pulled one back and further strikes from Ikolada and Miller saw Bridges through.

Saltdean United also lost at home to Suburban League opposition as they went down 4-2 to East Grinstead Town II. Two goals from Chapman gave Saltdean a half time lead, but an own goal 18 minutes into the second half gave Grinstead hope and Steve Major brought them level with ten minutes to go. With extra time looming Matt Edwards and Steve Major, with his second, both scored in the last minute.

There were just three league games played last Saturday. Clymping moved up to second in the table after a goal in each half from Aaron Meehan and Joe Sheeley gave them a 2-0 win at Pease Pottage Village. A Lee Smith hat trick and one from T. Oliver helped Dorking Wanderers to a 4-0 lead after just 28 minutes, but visitors Rottingdean Village stemmed the tide and there were no further goals.

Bosham moved out of the bottom two as their 3-0 home win condemned Forest to their first defeat. A N. Edgington penalty after 30 minutes put them on their way, and a goal from N. Redman made it 2-0 at half time. Edgington scored his second and Bosham's third seven minutes into the second half.

In the Vernon Wentworth Cup two goals from F. Dellow, the first after five minutes, and the second on 89 saw Hurstpierpoint through to the Third Round after beating Fern Estates at home.

In the Division Three Challenge Cup Clymping won through to a 2nd Round tie away to either Saltdean United or Forest after a hard-fought 2-1 win at Ifield Edwards. Joe Shelley gave the visitors the lead after 12 minutes, but Ross Dance equalised on 22. A Tony Castro penalty after 60 minutes turned out to be the winner. In the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup Preliminary Round Hurstpierpoint beat Mid Sussex Premier side Wisdom Sports 2-0 at home to set up a First Round home tie with Burgess Hill Town II, while in the Vernon Wentworth Cup 2nd Round Bosham went out after losing 2-0 at home to Steyning Town II.

In the league Uckfield Town remain top despite drawing 3-3 at home with Rottingdean Village. Casey Marlow gave Rottingdean the lead after just 3 minutes and Tom Pattenden made it 2-0 on 18. Uckfield pulled a goal back ten minutes before the break through Sam Scanlon, but Tom Pattenden restored Rottingdean's two goal advantage after 60 minutes. Five minutes later and Wes Lopez made it 3-2 before Simon Rowland salvaged a point with the equaliser 11 minutes from time. Little Common took advantage of Clymping's involvement in the cup to go second following their 4-2 home win over Pease Pottage Village. Ricki Mitchell gave Pottage a half-time lead, scoring five minutes before the break. Adie Kettyles brought Common level five minutes into the second half and he scored twice more, after 50 and 52 minutes to complete his hat trick and give the home side a 3-1 lead. Andy Humphrey made it 4-1 on 80 minutes with Ricki Mitchell netting his second for Pottage with 5 minutes remaining. Haywards Heath Town remain fourth as they picked up a point following their 1-1 draw at Forest, who move up to fifth. Mike Simmonds gave Forest a first half lead, but Lee Skinner earned Heath a share of the points, scoring after 70 minutes. Saltdean United moved out of the bottom two as a D. Taylor goal seven minutes from time was enough to give them the points and their first win at home to Broadbridge Heath.

In the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup Broadbridge Heath went through to a Third Round away tie with either Horley Wanderers or Maresfield Village after overcoming Crawley Down Reserves 2-0 at home, while Pease Pottage Village are also through to the Third Round as they won 5-2 at Ringmer Reserves. Doug Saunders got the first after 10 minutes, Dan Paton made it two on 35. Sean Coleby scored the third on the stroke of half-time, further strikes from Paul Minter in the 65th and Ricki Mitchell ten minutes later saw Pottage safely through to an away tie at either Southwater or Lindfield.

The top of the table clash at The Victoria Pleasure Ground saw Uckfield Town take over top spot from their visitors Clymping after beating them 2-1. Chris Hickman gave Uckfield the lead after 10 minutes and Wes Lopez made it 2-0 on 70. Tom Bunting pulled one back for Clymping with 10 minutes to go. Little Common missed the chance to go second as they were held 2-2 at home by Saltdean United. Chapman gave Saltdean the lead after 15 minutes, but five minutes later the prolific Lewis Hole equalised, and then on 36 minutrs he put Little Common ahead. Saxby salvaged a point for Saltdean with an equaliser three minutes from time. Newhaven and Forest shared the points at Fort Road following a 1-1 draw. Mike Simmonds put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot after 21 minutes, but Wayne Bashford equalised with seven minutes to go. Haywards Heath Town move up four places to fourth after winning 4-0 at Hurstpierpoint. Simon McMenemy gave Heath a 15th minute lead and further goals from Darren Pitcher (30) and Lee Skinner on the stroke of half-time gave Heath a comfortable lead. Mark Enticknap got the fourth after 85 minutes. Dorking Wanderers surprisingly lost 3-2 at home to struggling Bosham, who picked up their first win. Leroy Hyett got the home side off to a good start, netting in the ninth minute, but Darren Ayling levelled for Bosham after 32 minutes. Second half strikes from Marco Giambelardini after 60 and Tom Evans after 70 minutes put the visitors 3-1 up before Dave Terry ensured an exciting last five minutes as he pulled a goal back. Ifield Edwards picked up their first point of the season as they came from behind to grab a draw at Rottingdean Village. Ross Dance gave the visitors a first half lead, but Scott Turner and Tom Pattenden put the home side ahead with ten minutes remaining, but Terry Thornback earnt a point with three minutes to go.

Saturday 20 September 2008:

Division Three had two sides competing in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Challenge Vase last Saturday. Newhaven played hosts to Combined Premier League side Banstead Athletic, and they matched their senior opponents in the first half as Gary Holmes equalised an opening goal from Terry, but second half strikes by Torino and Corbett gave Banstead their place in the next round. Haywards Heath Town were away to Kent League side Croydon and despite being only a goal down at half time Croydon went on to win 4-0.

In the Mid Sussex Senior Charity Cup1st Round there was a welcome win for Ifield Edwards, who overcame Suburban League side and current holders Three Bridges II 3-1, Andy Dhiman opened the scoring for Ifield with a cracker, Stuart O'Hara equalised for Bridges, but two goals from captain Clive Piller saw Ifield go through. Ifield Edwards will now visit Crawley Premier League side Bletchingley in the Second Round. In the Second Round Dorking Wanderers won through to a Third Round tie with either Uckfield Town II or Cowfold following their 5-1 home win over Hassocks II. Leroy Hyett opened the scoring, but a goalkeeping mistake gave Hassocks II an equaliser before half time. The second half saw the Hassocks keeper sent off when conceding a penalty which Shane Jones converted and further strikes from Hyett, Jones and Dan Jolliffe secured the win.

Forest took Suburban League Oakwood II to extra time, and with the sides level at 0-0 after the extra half hour it was Oakwood II who went through, wining a penalty shoot-out 4-2. In the league Clymping are back on top on goal difference from Uckfield Town following their 6-1 hammering of Rottingdean Village at home. Paul Brown started the rout after 5 minutes and further goals from Antonio Castro after 16, Sebastian Di Paolo on 33 and Aaron Meehan after 40 minutes gave the home side a 4-0 half time lead. Toby Lancaster pulled one back for Rottingdean 11 minutes into the second half, but further goals from Jan Miller on 60 and Substitute Simon Corona two minutes later completed the rout.

Uckfield also won well as they scored five at Bosham without reply. Gary Rook opened the scoring after just 3 minutes and Wes Lopez made it 2-0 on 34. Lopez scored his second 15 minutes into the second half and Dan Barnard made it four nil after 82 minutes, before Lee Bradley completed the scoring three minutes later. Previous leaders Little Common were surprisingly beaten for the first time, 3-2 at home by Broadbridge Heath. Matt Butler and Damon Aston gave the visitors a 2-0 lead, but on the stroke of half time Dan Collins pulled one back for Common. Stuart Walsh equalised after 75 minutes, only for Alex Hall to score the winner with 10 minutes to go.

Pease Pottage Village suffered their second defeat of the season, going down 2-1 at home to Hurstpierpoint. Francis Dellow gave Hurst a first half lead, but Matt Harding equalised for the home side after 75 minutes, but Martin Hurley netted a last minute winner for the visitors.

Saturday 13 September 2008:

Little Common are the new leaders following their 3-2 win at Bosham. Lewis Hole gave Common the lead after 7 minutes, but N. Redman equalised after 25. Cliff MacDonald restored the visitors lead ten minutes before half-time and Stuart Weston increased Common's lead after 55. Bosham made it an interesting last nine minutes as they pulled a goal back through Ayling.

Clymping drop to second after suffering their first defeat, losing 3-2 at home to Broadbridge Heath. An own goal gave Clymping a first half lead, but Damon Aston after 65 minutes and Warren Sweatman on 69 put the visitors in front, and a third goal from Matt Butler 17 minutes from time looked to have secured the points, but Joe Shelley ensured a nervous last five minutes as he netted, but Heath held on.

Uckfield Town are up to third after beating Dorking Wanderers 4-3 at the Victoria Pleasure Ground. Gary Rook gave Uckfield an 18th minute lead, but Leroy Hylett equalised on 31 minutes. Rook scored again after 39 minutes, but again Hylett equalised just before half-time. Dan Jolliffe gave the visitors the lead on 68 minutes, but two goals in the last four minutes through Chris Hickman and Ben Elsey gave Uckfield the points.

Pease Pottage Village are up to fourth after winning 4-3 at bottom side Ifield Edwards. Clive Piller gave the home side the lead after 15 minutes, but goals from Doug Saunders on 25 and Andy Clowe after 35 put the visitors in front, only for Clive Piller to equalise two minutes before the break. Andy Clowe gave Pottage the advantage after 47 minutes and two minutes later Dave Houlders made it 4-2. Andy Dhiman pulled a goal back for Ifield Edwards, but Pottage somehow held on.

Haywards Heath Town and Newhaven shared the points at Hanbury Park where Gary Holmes gave Newhaven a first half lead, but Olly Davis salvaged a point for Heath with a goal 3 minutes from time.

Forest picked up three points following a 2-1 win at Rottingdean Village. All three goals came in the second half as strikes from Grant Miller and Dan Dalton gave Forest a two-goal lead, Anthony Potter pulled one back for the home side in the 87th minute. Hurstpierpoint picked up their first win as a 39th minute penalty by Martin Hurley was enough to give them the points at home to Saltdean United.

Saturday 6 September 2008:

Four of the scheduled six games survived the wet weather last weekend, but there were postponements at Roffey, where Forest were due to play Pease Pottage Village and at the Victoria Pleasure Ground where Uckfield Town were due to entertain Rottingdedan Village. Neither cancellation came as a surprise.

In the games that were played Clymping maintained their place at the top of the table following their 5-3 win at Hurstpierpoint.

Clymping were two up before the break through Richy Moss and Adam Westwood, and they went further ahead a minute into the second period as Tom Bunting scored. Hurst staged a fightback and pulled a couple of goals back through Tony Burnham after 66 minutes abd Graeme Fotherington two minutes later. But the visitors secured the points as they scored twice more through Miller after 70 minutes and Chris Webb five minutes from time, but Hurst grabbed a further consolation as Martin Hurley scored two minutes from time.

Little Common are up to second following their 4-2 win at Ifield Edwards. The home side took the lead after 16 minutes thanks to Jamal Sultan, but Little Common hit back to lead 2-1 at the break courtesy of Adie Kettyles and Stuart Weston. Common increased their lead in the 58th minute when Dan Collins scored. With seven minutes to go Ifield pulled a goal back through Ross Dance, but within a minute leading scorer Lewis Hole settled the points with Common's fourth. Haywards Heath Town climbed up to fifth as they beat Broadbridge Heath 2-0 at Hanbury Park.

A goal in each half from M. Beard and Daley Clark secured the points. Bosham got very close to their first three point haul as they were pegged back in the last minute by visitors Saltdean United, with both sides scoring their first goals of the season. Bosham led 2-1 at half-time thanks to a brace from N. Redman, while Chapman replied for Saltdean. Mansell equalised for the visitors after 48 minutes, but Butler gave Bosham the lead again after 68, before a last minute equaliser from Fleming gave Saltdean a share of the points.

In the Vernon Wentworth Cup First Round Newhaven won 3-0 at Storrington II, thanks to two goals from Wayne Bashford and one from Jason Goddard. They will be away to Shoreham II in the next round.
